I have spent a lot of time deliberating on wether or not to purchase a X-Box to help cure my insanity of being alone. There are a plethora of games that I would like to commit my life to such as Fable and Burnout 3, and lest we not forget the glory that will be Halo 2 when it comes out. The prices have dropped considerably on the hardware to the point where a new system cost only $149.00. So I think for $300 I could get games controllers and the works. Granted that's half a paycheck, but still, I think it could be worth it's weight in entertainment.
My fears however are two fold. One being that a gaming system is only as good as the friends you have to play it with. How great can Halo 2 be if you're stuck playing single player? What fun is Burnout 3 if you can't crash into your buddies cars?
The rebutle to this is that Fable is a single player game, and what is to keep me from bringing the gaming system over to Indiana for my visits with Levin, or dialing into the fraternity to play Halo 2 (I think you're allowed ip acess in that version).
My second fear is of the up and coming X-Box II. The rumors slate if for release as early as next christmas and say that it could be backwards compatible.
The counter to this being that it is still just a rumor that it would be backward compatible, and early next christmas could strech into 2 years. Who is also to say that the system won't debut at over $300. That might be above my spending budget at the time especially with new games and controllers.
I have spend some rescources into asking most people I know their opinion and they have all said to get the X-box now and see what happens in 2-3 years with the X-Box II. I am beginning to agree with them, so by this weekend, I might be the proud owner of a new X-box!
