DearS: Anime Review

So my latest anime intrest is a 12 episode series entitled "DearS" It's an interesting mix of adult humor, and a small warm fuzzy feeling like a good Disney.

The basis of the story is that a space ship has crash landed on earth, and the inhabitants (DearS), have no means of leaving, so they attempt to integrate into Japanese society. They posess amazing intelect and of course the ability to levitate.

It becomes a basic love story between a boy whi lives alone and a DearS that he found wandering, naked of course, in the streets (See: Chobits). In the first episode the DearS calls him Master and she, his slave, and procedes on from there with hilarious results. It even throws in a cat-girl from time to time!

It is one of the first anime in a long time to get me to chuckle alive with laughter and yell at the TV ("Just KISS her already!"). It has an adult side that makes it preferably watched after 10:00, but it's so overdone that it truely comes off as comical as opposed to just overdone.

It may be my current situation, but it provides a good look at a lopsided relationships, and respect. Lets face it, if you had an alien slave whose sole purpose was to fulfill your every desire, wouldn't you be inclined to take advantage of it?

The animation itself is well done (on par with other high quality shows) and the Seiyuu are top notch. The hero's character is done by the same voice of Seiji from Midori no Hibi, and his friend is the same voice as Inuyasha. Also, the school's Sensei is the same voice as Chitose Hibiya from Chobits and also the voice of Belldandy in the Ahh! My Goddess Series.

For those of you out there who are looking for a light, quick, Chobits re-make with a dash of Love Hina; I sugest going for this. It gets 4 out of 5 Ben-kun's!
