When I first attempted to describe my job it came out something like this:
"Well I go abroad to the UK to the users and discuss the tool set with them, understand how it works and then take their complaints, bugs, and suggestions and bring them back to the programmers for working." It didn't take me long to realize that my job sounded strangely familiar.

"Well, look, I already told you. I deal with the goddamn customers so
the engineers don't have to!! I have people skills!! I am good at
dealing with people!!! Can't you understand that?!? WHAT THE HELL IS
WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!!!!!!"
I had a moment of clarity today as I was enjoying my mid afternoon constitutional around the campus. I think my role has evolved into something a little more exciting.
When I look back at what my position has evolved into, I'm no longer in the subservient role. You see, when something breaks they call me in, and I arrive to fix it.
"Toluca Lake. It's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten."
I have the authority, knowledge, and skills to tackle any road block that can come up in our multi-million pound, 34 year contract. People respond to my knowledge, confidence, and rely on me to set things straight.
"Get it straight buster - I'm not here to say please, I'm here to tell you what to do and if self-preservation is an instinct you possess you'd better fucking do it and do it quick. I'm here to help - if my help's not appreciated then lotsa luck, gentlemen."
You see for a living, I solve problems. (:
